In addition to being handy to check one's general bearing, this compass also has a sighting window and a viewing prism to make very precise measurements of the bearing of landmarks. A bubble level ensures the compass is flat and free to rotate. As someone who's done a fair amount of hiking and orienteering, I can attest that this is a very high-quality compass, functional and durable for the road. It's quite portable too. For serious campers,a lensatic compass allows one to measure or layout magnetic bearings. The compass is built like a tank- it is made from hard, durable plastic, and is extremely sturdy. So feel free to try smashing it against a wall. The compass won't break, but I bet you that you will probably end up tearing a muscle in your shoulder blade. This is how frickin' sturdy this compass is.The only downside for this compass is that it is quite heavy when measured up against a "cheaper" and more "generic" compass. Then again, it is a lensatic compass, and so far I haven't found a light one yet. Overall, I highly recommend it. If you are a military guy, then you are going to love this compass. |
