I've been playing guitar for 3 years and I just received the Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway in the Natural Finish.

I LOVE THIS GUITAR !!!

For starters I'm 5'5" with small hands and the thinness and small size of this guitar fits me perfectly. This would be a great guitar for a child to learn on as it will not overpower them. I wish I had this guitar for my 1st guitar.

Features:
I really like the built-in tuner and auto shut down. Buy this guitar and you don't have to buy a tuner. I thought I would not like the fact the APX500 does not come with a pick guard, but the oval sound hole allows for a little over strumming without the pick hitting and scratching the soundboard.

Sound:
Okay, the guitar is on the small side but the engineers at Yamaha have designed a full (unplugged) sound. It is incredible really. I own dreadnoughts and love the sound, but the APX (unplugged) sounds great. Now I will admit the... Read more

Just bought one of these and so far, so good. Great sound, good value, nicely finished, easy to play, easy to use electronic digital tuner, equalizer, and sounds great when plugged into an amp.

Been playing guitar for over 15 years, but have always hated how much a decent guitar costs. It's a hobby, and I don't want to spend $600 just for a good acoustic/electric. When I found the Yamaha, I was very skeptical. But, I went to a local guitar shop, played one there and found that I really liked it. Came back and ordered it online for cheaper.
It has very low action but, unlike a lot of acoustics set up this way, has absolutely no buzzing. All the hardware is reliable and holds the tuning extremely well. The guitar is lightweight but sturdy and the internal pickup is great. There's a lot of wiggle room when it comes to what sounds you're looking to make.
There are only a few things which are cons:
- Because it is a thin body, the guitar doesn't have great volume if it's not plugged in. If you're playing with other musicians, you'll need an amp.
- Doesn't come with a gig bag or case.
- The strap peg on the to of the guitar is placed oddly,... Read more
