I purchased the 6.5 H.P. Shop Vac to replace an older 5.5 H.P. that had lived a good life to the end. I was surprised that the new unit had 1 1/2" hoses while the old unit had 1 1/4" hoses. fortunately the new unit had the same type of connectors to the stainless steel tank. This enables me to use the older 2 1/2", 1 1/4" or the new 1 1/2" hoses.
With the on board storage for accessories filled with tools and adapters the unit is a bit top heavy and will tip backwards quite easily if pushed back from the front.
The 6 1/2 H.P unit does a better job of dust collection on my band saw and miter saw. I shopped the local stores and was unable find a suitable replacement. All that was offered was the bulky plastic canister type which require more space while in use or storage.
While it appeared to be a bit pricy at first glance, it proves once again that you get what you pay for.

Powerful,easy to move around in the rehab houses we work on. For drywall sanding we have a Porter Cable power drywall sander and we hook up this vac to it and it does great with the paper bag filter. When the air flow slows down, stop the vac and shake it to settle the dust down into the bottom of bag and go at it again. The power switch is poor when it was new and died at 8 months, I wired in a heavy duty toggle switch, a huge improvement. Plan on the switch replacement, other than that it's a the best, most powerful vac of the 8 I've owned.

While cleaning up a very wet spill with my 20+ year old Shop-Vac I realized it had rusted through. It was time to get a placement. The new one had to be stainless and after agonizing over many models, I chose the Shop-Vac 9625510 6.5-Peak Horsepower Right Stuff Stainless Steel Wet/Dry Vacuum, 10-Gallon. Several months later hurricane Irene arrived and after 25+ years I got a small leak in the basement. Clean-up was a breeze with the new Shop-Vac.
